Title

Bathed in moonlight and the warm glow of township windows, Skebeen Drinkers captures a timeless evening scene: friends gathered outside a corrugated iron shebeen, sharing stories and homebrew under a starry sky. Grand Maghandlela’s expressive brushstrokes and rich blues contrast with golden light, creating a sense of intimacy and rhythm.

More than just a place to drink, the shebeen was a refuge of community and quiet rebellion—especially during apartheid, when Black South Africans were barred from formal bars. These informal venues, often run by shebeen queens, played a vital role in social life, resistance culture, and the preservation of tradition.

Printed on Innova Décor Watercolour Art 245gsm fine art paper using archival pigment inks, each print is produced in the UK to museum-quality standards.

Every purchase directly supports Grand Maghadelda’s mission to fund an art school in South Africa, empowering the next generation of young artists.
