In Jukskei River, Grand Maghandlela offers a vivid depiction of daily life along the banks of one of Johannesburg’s most well-known waterways. The painting captures the dense informal settlements that stretch beside the river—rows of corrugated iron homes buzzing with movement and colour, set against a backdrop of trees and sky.
The Jukskei River, flowing through Alexandra township and other densely populated areas, is both a lifeline and a challenge—its banks often home to communities facing difficult conditions. Through bold brushwork and human warmth, this piece invites us to witness resilience, togetherness, and the complexity of urban life in post-apartheid South Africa.
Printed on Innova Décor Watercolour Art 245gsm fine art paper using archival pigment inks, each print is produced in the UK to museum-quality standards.
Every purchase directly supports Grand Maghadelda’s mission to fund an art school in South Africa, empowering the next generation of young artists.
